The Saskatchewan Arts Board is pleased to announce the members of the advisory committee for our Independent Artists program review: Joel Bernbaum, Michel Boutin, Johanna Bundon, Ellen Moffat, Elizabeth Philips, Anita Rocamora and Gerard Weber. Please see below for their bios.

We will also be holding eight public consultation meetings around the province (Yorkton, Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Swift Current and La Ronge) so we can hear artists' concerns as part of our review of the Independent Artists program. Joel Bernbaum is a theatre impresario with an extensive history of working in the community in different capacities – as a playwright, actor, producer, director, and all-round independent artist – in addition to running SUM Theatre, which produces free outdoor theatre in the summer. (Saskatoon)

Michel Boutin is a visual artist working with the national organization, Aboriginal Artist Run Centres. He is a professional visual artist with a deep knowledge and experience of the value of arts in community settings. (Prince Albert)

Johanna Bundon, a dancer with extensive experiencecreating and performing in a variety of works, has served on almost as many juries as she has received grants. She teaches privately and at the Globe Theatre and creates and participates in community conversations around the value of art and arts activity in the community. (Regina)

Ellen Moffat is a multimedia artist working mainly with the visual medium; she has recently branched out into sound and performance art and has travelled the world installing and performing solo works and works created in collaboration with international artists. (Saskatoon)

Elizabeth Philips is a writer (as a poet, she is a recent winner at the Saskatchewan Book Awards; as a novelist, she was nominated for 2016 Amazon Best First Novel Award) who was a Programme Director at The Banff Centre. She has also been active in the national writing community for many years as an editor and teacher. (Saskatoon)

Anita Rocamora is a visual artist who has received many grants, awards, and national and international artist residencies. She works primarily in ceramics whose work is in the Arts Board’s Permanent Collection; she was the 2012 recipient of the Saskatchewan Artist Award as part of the Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Awards. Gerard Weber is a musician who recently completed his masters’ degree is now a freelance professional musician working with organizations like the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra and the Strata New Music Festival. His artistic work focuses on finding new ways to integrate his music with other artistic mediums. (Saskatoon)
